International Development Bank Launches the "Arab Tourist Card" in Cooperation with the Official National Tourism Platform – Visit Iraq
As part of Iraq’s national strategy to boost the tourism sector and highlight the country's rich cultural and historical identity, the International Development Bank (IDB) has officially announced the launch of the "Arab Tourist Card" in partnership with Visit Iraq, the national tourism platform. The announcement was made during a high-level conference held at the Abbasid Palace in Baghdad, under the patronage of the Prime Minister, H.E. Eng. Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani.
This initiative represents a significant step towards revitalizing tourism in Iraq and providing a seamless travel experience enhanced by secure digital banking services. The Arab Tourism Organization has selected the International Development Bank, recognized for its advanced digital infrastructure and outstanding banking expertise, as the exclusive issuer of electronic payment cards (Visa and Mastercard) for Arab tourists – a first-of-its-kind initiative in Iraq.
The Arab Tourist Card, issued by the IDB, offers a full suite of financial services including secure digital payments, ATM cash withdrawals, and coverage of expenses related to accommodation, shopping, and tourism services. The card aims to enhance the experience of Arab visitors in Iraq by providing a reliable payment solution accepted throughout the country.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Saad Faeq, Managing Director of the International Development Bank, stated:
"The launch of the Arab Tourist Card in collaboration with the Visit Iraq platform is a strategic step supporting the Iraqi government’s efforts – led by the Prime Minister – to promote Iraq as a preferred destination for visitors from across the Arab world, We are proud of this partnership, and being selected as the exclusive issuer of these cards marks a milestone in our ongoing contribution to the national economy.
The card reflects our commitment to delivering innovative and secure banking solutions that reinforce Iraq’s status as a leading cultural and tourist destination in the region.
The IDB further emphasized that its participation in this national project aligns with its strategic vision to support Iraq’s economy by empowering key sectors – notably tourism and culture – through modern banking solutions that keep pace with digital transformation and cater to the needs of international visitors.
The launch of the platform and the tourist card comes as Baghdad has been named the Arab Capital of Tourism for 2025. This initiative is part of broader national efforts to enhance Iraq’s image, ensuring visitors enjoy a smoother, safer, and higher-quality experience through the integration of tourism services with digital financial solutions, thereby presenting a modern image of Iraq to the Arab world.
